Teaching front desks the language of pacing shifts

training front desk language
Front desks often hear about pacing shifts as mysterious decrees from upstairs. We teach a small vocabulary: freeze, release, shoulder, band, and partner summary. Five words reduce confusion more than a dozen metrics ever could.
Workshops include a ten-minute role play: a pacing lead explains a shift using only the vocabulary sheet while the front desk asks clarifying questions. It is slightly awkward, but it surfaces gaps early.
We also give front desks a printed digest option. Some properties prefer paper at the desk during high traffic. The digest mirrors the digital digest to avoid two truths.
Language training is not a one-time launch event. We recommend quarterly refreshers when seasonal rhythms change, especially before major holidays. Language drifts quietly; refreshers cost little compared to misaligned overrides.
